After some research, I’d like to share with you my analysis of the Forever Alone meme and the Feels Guy.
So the idea of Forever Alone is interpreted in several ways. Many people see him as just not having a significant other but in truth, he has no one. Forever Alone is rejected by everyone (ex. Threw a Boomerang/ it Didn’t Come Back). He has no friends or anyone who would care about him. His longing for human contact if any kind makes him desperate. A notable example of this would be “Got Robbed Last Night/ First Time I Had People Over In Years”. Truly, Forever Alone lives up to the name with no exaggeration. He lives in solitude and has come to terms with the idea that he will die alone.
Now, the Feels Guy is a newer meme with gaining popularity as he becomes a fresh face of meme culture while Forever Alone is a Classic Meme along with Troll Face, Me Gusta, etc. Feels Guy is another way to express loneliness through memes, but in a less extreme manner. Feels Guy’s main theme is “That Feel When No Gf”. It’s easy to say that this line shows that Feels Guy is certainly longing for a Gf. However, it still remains possible that one day Feels Guy may achieve this because it has not been proven that he is as alone in the world as Forever Alone. There is a feeling of understanding that comes with Feels Guy. Feels Guy is suffering (perhaps not at the same level as Forever Alone) but he Knows That Feel. He’s gone through it and he knows you have gone through it too. He sympathizes. He understands. He relates. This is something that Forever Alone failed to do. Forever Alone was a meme that expressed severe loneliness to the point where it became hard to relate to.
In conclusion, as i still will continue to defend and support classic memes, i believe that the Feels Guy is an improvement in meme culture. Feels Guy brings sympathy and understanding to the table which was unheard of before. Forever Alone was good in his time, but the future holds bigger and better memes.
this is such a well put together argument and i am so fucking pissed off… like… how dare you make me think academically about memes
